Private Lessons

Background :

Lisa has been teaching since her first private student in London, England several decades ago. From her own private teaching studio maintained throughout the years, to music schools in New York City, Long Island and Westchester NY, as well as in Boston's suburbs, Lisa has long been in high demand for her music instruction.  She has been the primary flute instructor at the New World School of Music in Baldwin NY, the Bronx Kumon School, and Pelham Music Academy in New York, as well as at the EduExpress School in Boston, Massachusetts.

Lisa's musical style is a unique, being most influenced musically by decades of intensive studying and learning from great British, European, and American flautists.   Her musicality and very specific training directly carries over to her tutelage to her students. Every lesson emphasises the importance of using the flute as a voice, and singing with a clear sound through the flute.

Lisa also utilises her training in other performing art forms to help relate music and flute playing to life.   Health awareness, movement instruction and breathing guidance are essential to the musical life of a flute student.

Whether you have never played a flute before or are looking for some very advanced instruction and guidance to refine your technique, sound, and phrasing, Lisa will work with you cater to your unique needs, requirements, and goals for their flute playing.  Some students are just starting a new instrument at school and this is their first encounter playing music, while others are in high school entering competitions, and then there are flutists are in their 70s who are picking up the flute for the first time in 40 years, wanting to refine their hobby of flute playing to enjoy during retirement! (Here is a story of an actual student of Ms. Dispigno: The student hadn't played her flute for 40 years, and her husband bought her a flute for their 50th wedding anniversary.  It was the instrument she had played as a young girl, and desired to pick it up later in life, when she had more time as a retired grandmother. This student always approached her flute and her music with such excitement!)

Whatever your goal as a flute player: to win the chair, to prepare for ABRSM exams, or to simply learn to play for pure enjoyment, Ms. Dispigno will cater your lessons to the level of intensity you require them to be.
